Super mum who loves bookkeeping celebrates a year of charity fundraising

Derby business owner and mother of two young daughters, Sara Gration, celebrates Saylavy’s first year in business and fundraising exceeding £3000.

With over 12 years worth of experience in business and personal finance, Sara, 31, decided that it was time to make her own distinct mark on the Derby business scene by providing a competitive, personal bookkeeping service to help local businesses.  By taking away the tasks that they don’t want to do, they would be allowed more time to spend on growing their own business.

Sara’s work, however, has not only focused on her business, Saylavy, but has included establishing a ‘Kids Church’ in her home village of Darley Abbey and she has also undertaken a notable amount of fundraising for both national charities and local causes.  In February, Sara began by raising money to buy chairs for church and in May, went on to raise £180 by competing in the Race For Life for Cancer Research.  In July, she went on to stage a BBQ in aid of the Royal British Legion in Derby Abbey, of which she is a member.

However, by September, Sara upped the fundraising ante generating £450 for the Lewis Mighty Fund through a charity carwash at Belper-based Willis Cooper Chartered Accountants.  She shortly followed this with October’s £1700, again for Lewis Mighty, along with the Insulin Dependant Diabetes Trust through a black ties event at Mickleover Court Hotel.

“My business sees me work on something I am very passionate about: Bookkeeping, but I think it’s really important to set a good example to our children and consider those less fortunate than ourselves.  That’s why I dedicate a proportion of my time to raising money for worthy causes” explained Sara, who has also sold raffle tickets, made jam and pursued various other initiatives to help raise money for charities and good causes.

This week, Sara is celebrating exceeding the £3000 mark in her fundraising throughout 2010, having successfully completed a sponsored silence, something fondly considered to be Sara’s most challenging task yet by those who know her.
